classic radio is the new 'cool radio'.

We are local. Yes, actually local.

We are local. Yes, actually local.

We are local. Yes, actually local.

Located at 934 East Main Street our office is located inside the SecondByte Apple store.  We can sit down with you face-to-face to discuss your advertising needs.  Being local means you get personal service, right from the start.

This is our community too.

We are local. Yes, actually local.

We are local. Yes, actually local.

We live here too.  This is our community.  We are here to make Paper City Radio a supportive part of the community.  Small businesses struggle now more than ever to reach the local market and 'traditional' corporate-owned radio has become so expensive only the larger enterprises can afford to advertise.  We're here to support everyone, regardless of business size.

Hip vibe in new media.

We are local. Yes, actually local.

Hip vibe in new media.

We spend a lot of time talking about how 'things used to be', 'back in  the day'.  Remember when MTV actually played good music? Or when you watched Soul Train?  Ok, maybe your not old enough for  Soul Train but, wouldn't you agree that radio has become disconnected from what adults actually enjoy?  We're here to bring the hip and chill vibes back to radio, one song at-a-time.

An Interview with "the Rodman"

An interview with our The Rod Man telling us all about Paper City Radio, Chillicothe's newest at-work radio station.

Q) So who are you and what is Paper City Radio?

(Rod) Well.. that's a great question, but can we order drinks first?

Q) Far enough, lets start with your name, why do you call yourself "The Rodman"?

Rod) That name was actually given to me by my Program Director at my first full-time gig in Radio. I have no idea what it means if it means anything at all.  It was that or my real name, Rod Stewart.. yes, that's my real name. What can I say, my mom REALLY liked Rod Stewart. Besides, it's better than being named Michael Bolton, like the guy in Office Space!

Q) How long have you worked in Radio?

Rod) Let's just say long enough to remember how much fun and part of the Community Radio used to be. I started in the late 80s as an intern and came up learning from some of the best like Scott Shannon, Lori Lewis, Bernie Dittman, Will Pendarvis and Leslie Fram

Q) Well, what is Paper City Radio and why Chillicothe?

Rod) My dad worked in a Paper Mill is whole life and the first time I came to Chillicothe, I fell in love with it.  I remembered hearing of Chillicothe in Marvel comics as a kid and John Mellencamp coming here on MTV as a teenager. I related to this town. It was America to me. Every time I played "Small Town" on the Radio, it didn't matter if it was on Wave 102 in Destin, FL. or doing Morning's on WNCX in Cleveland, I always thought of Chillicothe..  and that's what makes it the perfect place for Paper City Radio!

Q) So obviously Paper City Radio is a Radio Station, but what makes it different than other Radio?

Rod) I've always thought the magic of Radio is being live and local. To have an actual live human being in your town, going through the day with you, talking about things going on in your town. Talking about and supporting your local business, charities, and events. Not just some pre-recorded corporate jukebox broadcasting from far away with people that know nothing about our town.

I think Corporate Radio has made radio stale and boring. The same songs and same formats over and over without the excitement of not knowing what's coming up. If you're between 30 & dead, they ignore you or treat you like you only want Soft Hits or Classic Rock.

Paper City Radio is live, local Radio that breaks those stereotypes! Just because we're over 30, doesn't mean we don't like to have fun! This is College Radio for adults. I'll hang out with and help you get through your workday! Have a cup of Paper City Coffee and play some of the best music to keep you upbeat and positive all day long!

Q) So you play the best from the 80's, 90's, 2000's & today? What exactly does that mean?

Rod)  We dig through the record bin, cassette tapes, and CDs to offer up a totally different and authentic playlist of some of the biggest hits you forgot about and the B sides, you had to be there to know! No corporate cookie-cutter generic playlist here. From Depeche Mode to The Black Pumas. From Blink 182 to Johnny Cash. You just never know what's coming up!

Q) What do you hope to do with Paper City Radio?

Rod) Other than offering up a true Independence Radio alternative to listeners, I hope to really bring focus and excitement to the city, the local business, local charities and events.

To bring smiles to people's faces and help them get through the work day and really focus on supporting local businesses daily.

Q) Last question.. Did you launch Paper City Radio on Dec.16th? That's an odd time why then?

Rod) Yes, there is actually! I told you earlier about falling in love with Chillicothe and always thinking about when I played John Mellencamp.

Dec.16th this year was the 30th Anniversary of John Mellencamp playing his Christmas concert here, which was a direct result of the local DJ starting a petition from the people of Chillicothe to play. That is the power of local radio. That is what we can do when we all come together to support our town and our local businesses.

We wanted to honor that memory and capture that magic at Paper City Radio!

Station Owner

Bo McCoy, MBA

Bo is an 18-year resident of Chillicothe who moved to the community in 2005.  Bo holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration and has served as C.O.O. or both technology and medical marketing companies.  With a diverse background, Bo has an eclectic mix of interests and it is those interests that motivate his business interests.

Since moving to Chillicothe Bo has integrated into the community by opening several businesses; Vapors of Ohio, The CBD Store, TAG Clothing company, and the newly opened Paper City Media.  Paper City Radio is the broadcast arm of Paper City Media.  Bo noticed that local businesses struggle to reach targeted local demographics because of the conglomeration of multi-media which priced out the small businesses.

Paper City Radio was birthed to bring the "local" back into local radio.  Using streaming technology and social media; Paper City Radio offers a nostalgic radio sound in a modern marketplace.   Paper City Radio plans to offer local businesses and Ross County Chamber businesses easy-to-launch and low-cost advertising opportunities that promote the local economy.

Bo and his family are happy to make Chillicothe their home for themselves, their children, and their business.  They look forward to having The RodMan and his family join them full-time in the community later this summer.
